PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining member and an earth retaining method capable of suppressing a projection length from an earth retaining wall and also coping with ununiformity of a position to build a core material and ununiformity of a direction in which a tension member in an anchor is extended.SOLUTION: The earth retaining member includes: a hollow tubular member (1); a rib (2) extending to a radial direction outer part of the tubular member (1); a connection part (3) extending on both sides in a diameter direction of the tubular member (1) and connected with an end of a wale (30); a bottom plate (6) arranged on an inner side of the tubular member (1) and having a through-hole (4a) formed to insert a tension member (T); and a support bracket (5) for supporting the tubular member (1).
