摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device that has a luminance sensor and a plurality of light sources and controls light emission of each light source on the basis of a detected value of the luminance sensor, the backlight device being continuously usable for a certain period even if some of the light source or the luminance sensor gets out of order.SOLUTION: There is provided a backlight device which has a plurality of light sources capable of having light emission individually controlled. The backlight device includes a luminance sensor which detects luminance values of the respective light sources, first fault detection means of detecting a fault of each light source, second fault detection means of detecting a fault of the luminance sensor, storage means of storing a target value of detected values of luminance of the respective light sources by the luminance sensor, and control means of determining light emission control values of the respective light sources so that differences between the detected values of luminance of the respective light sources by the luminance sensor and the target value become small. The control means determines the light emission control values of the respective sources as fixed values without reference to the differences between the detected values by the luminance sensor and the target value when a fault of at least one of the light sources or the luminance sensor is detected.
