PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resolution converter performing high quality resolution conversion for a thin line part or the like, and to provide a control method thereof.SOLUTION: The resolution converter calculates first secondary coefficients corresponding to an interpolation direction indicating the direction of an edge or a thin line included in the peripheral region of an interpolation pixel. The first secondary coefficients and second secondary coefficients calculated using an interpolation function indicating an isotropic distribution are synthesized with a weight corresponding to the probability that the peripheral region includes an edge or a thin line in the interpolation direction (degree of confidence z in the interpolation direction), thus calculating third secondary coefficients. Pixel value of an interpolation pixel is obtained by product-sum operation of the third secondary coefficient and the pixel value of a peripheral pixel of the interpolation pixel. The larger one of a degree of confidence z1 in the direction of an edge included in the peripheral region and a degree of confidence z2 in the direction of a thin line included in the peripheral region is selected as the degree of confidence z in the interpolation direction, and the direction corresponding to the degree of confidence thus selected is the interpolation direction. |
