PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen generation apparatus capable of detecting changes in the surface condition of the inner wall of a reaction vessel.SOLUTION: A hydrogen generation apparatus has a reaction vessel whose interior is in an oxygen-free atmosphere in which oxygen in the air has been removed and which accommodates a reaction agent containing an alkaline metal and oxygen and is formed from a metallic material forming an oxide film on its surface or an oxide material formed of an oxide, a heating means to heat the reaction vessel and the reaction agent, a water feed means to feed water or steam in the reaction vessel, and a detection means to detect changes in the surface condition of the inner wall of the reaction vessel. |
