Provided is an insulated wire that is capable of reducing loads to the environment by containing a renewable biomass resource, and has excellent water resistance even if containing the biomass resource. The insulated wire includes a conductor, and an insulator that coats the perimeter of the conductor, wherein the insulator is made from a resin composition that contains a biodegradable resin having a repeating unit structure represented by the following general formula (1), and a repeating unit structure represented by the following general formula (2); wherein each of R1 and R2 represents an alkyl group having one or more carbon atoms, and each of a and b represents a natural number of one or more.
