626,342. Chucks. VIDAL, C. H. Nov. 15, 1946, No. 33989. [Class 83 (iii)] The jaws of a chuck are connected to a back plate or body part by non-metallic resilient material so as to leave gaps between the side faces of the jaws unfilled and so as to permit movement of the jaws towards and away from the axis of rotation of the chuck. In the form shown, the back plate is in the form of a ring 16 between which and the face 14 of a cutaway portion of each jaw 10 a rubber block 18 is secured. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the ring is replaced by a disc against which the rear faces of the jaws abut. In another modification, Figs. 8 to 10 (not shown), the rear end face of each jaw is provided with a semi-cylindrical recess, the back plate comprising a spider member with arms extending along the recesses and connected to the cylindrical surfaces thereof by means of rubber inserts. In a further modification, the jaws are connected by rubber blocks to the body part of the chuck. |
