PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quantum cryptography (QC) apparatus and a method for operating such an apparatus.SOLUTION: A timing and synchronization apparatus and method for a quantum cryptography system is disclosed. A gating pulse is generated by a clock and synchronized to the receipt of transmitted photons at a detector. The apparatus is arranged to only accept photon detection events occurring during a gating period. |
