PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that detects a roll diameter of a recording medium wound around a rotary shaft while suppressing the occurrence of the wasteful recording medium before image recording processing.SOLUTION: A conveyance device includes: a rotary shaft that rotates according to conveyance speed of the recoding medium while the recording medium is wound like a roll; and a control part that calculates a roll diameter of the recording medium wound around the rotary shaft based on the rotation speed of the rotary shaft detected by a rotation speed detection part and conveyance speed of the recording medium detected by a speed detection part, and adjusts a tension of the recording medium by rotating the rotary shaft with a torque according to the roll diameter. The control part executes a roll diameter calculation mode calculating the roll diameter while conveying the recording medium at speed where a speed component in a first direction is smaller than recording speed, and subsequently executes a recording conveyance mode conveying the recording medium at the first direction at the recording speed while adjusting the tension of the recording medium based on the roll diameter.
