PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium processing apparatus that can reduce waiting time going with switching of a processing object medium in an apparatus processing a plurality of kinds of processing object media, and to provide a method for controlling the medium processing apparatus.SOLUTION: A medium processing apparatus 1 that can connect an external apparatus 5 includes: a plurality of processing means 201 and 202 that can process different mediums respectively; a switching control means 101 that switches the processing means 201 and 202 of the control target according to a specification command to specify the processing means 201 and 202 of the control target from the external apparatus 5; and a storage means 103 to memorize when an error is generated in the processing means 201 and 202, the error.
