PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor capable of promoting the temperature rising of a detection element, and activating the detection element in an earlier stage.SOLUTION: A protector 4 of a gas sensor 1 surrounds the periphery of a detection element 6, and positioned on a flow channel upstream side of exhaust gas rather than the detection element 6, so that the temperature of the protector 4 is raised earlier than the detection element 6. Heat received by the protector 4 can be transmitted to the detection element 6 through abutting portions 47 and 67, and the early temperature rising of the detection element 6 is materialized. The protector 4 having a thickness D1 of the abutting portion 47 equal to or smaller than a thickness D2 of the abutting portion 67 of the detection element 6 and a heat capacity smaller than that of the detection element 6 is early to receive heat, so that heat transmission from the protector 4 to the detection element 6 is smoothly carried out. The detection element 6 projects, at a tip end side of a detecting portion 68, from a tip end of the protector 4 and can directly receive heat from exhaust gas, thereby rising in temperature in an earlier stage. |
