This light scanning observation device is provided with: a light source unit (30) that outputs laser light; a scanning unit (23) that scans a focal position for the laser light that is output by the light source on an object (70) to be observed; and a detection unit (40) that samples signal light obtained by the laser light scanning and converts the same to an electrical signal. The sampling time for detecting the signal light for a single sampling is changed according to changes in the scanning rate on the object (70) to be observed by the scanning unit (24). Thus, a light scanning observation device in which changes in the resolution of an image because of changes in the scanning rate for each sampling are reduced is provided.
