PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-optical axis photoelectric sensor and an object detection system which can prevent an operator from entering even if a line stops in a muting mode and is reliable. SOLUTION: A timer circuit clocks passage time Ts required for a workpiece to pass between a first entrance side detection sensor SA1 and a first exit side detection sensor SB1 which are located adjacently across the multi-optical axis photoelectric sensor 3 during a teaching mode. A teaching circuit 34 calculates reference time Tk based on the passage time Ts. An abnormal signal output circuit 35 compares each clock time tn from the timer circuit 33 with the reference time Tk during a detection mode, determines that conveyance is abnormal when the clock time tn reaches the reference time Tk, and outputs a line abnormality signal SG1.
