<p>The method involves determining a target volume equivalent to the minimum target volume in a fictive homogeneous body. The equivalent target volume is then extended by a safety margin to determine the planning target volume. The fictive homogeneous body is a body of wafer. The width of the safety margin is matched to an inaccuracy of the position of the minimum target volume in the coordinate system of the particle therapy system (10). An independent claim is also included for the planning target volume determination apparatus.</p>
