The device (30) has a magazine (32) receiving a printing plate (2) and transferring the plate from the magazine to a plate carrier cylinder (16). A guide rail (36) guides the printing plate during transfer of the printing plate by co-operating with a notch (12) of a front edge of the printing plate. The notch is slid along the guide rail during transfer of the plate. The guide rail is engaged with the notch that is engaged with an indexing pin (22) on the cylinder for lateral positioning of the plate along the cylinder. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a printing assembly for a rotary offset printing press (2) a set of printing plates for a printing assembly (3) a method for loading printing plate on a plate carrier cylinder of a rotary offset printing press.
