The clutch unit (10a) is assembled of a housing (14a) accommodating the pressure plates (12a) and joined to the flywheel (16a). An additional wear and tear compensating arrangement comprising a wear and tear detection (30a) and correction system (32a) is also part of the device. For performing a first step of the method by creating an engaging force for use the forces for engaging have to be stronger than the torque transmitted by the clutch unit (10a). For the creation of a wear and tear compensating force a maximal engaging power has to be provided.
