<p>A drag reduction device 202 for a truck comprises an elongate strake 204 having an outboard aerodynamic surface 206. The drag reduction device 202 is configured to cooperate with the underside of the truck such that the outboard aerodynamic surface 206 faces outboard and extends from an inboard position in a rearward and outboard direction with respect to the truck 2. The device may have an inboard aerodynamic surface (212 see fig 12) which diverges from the outboard aerodynamic surface 206. Strake side impact rails 216, 218 are also provided. The truck (2 see fig 1) typically has spoilers and other aerodynamic features in the vicinity of the cab 10, mirrors and wheel arches. A vortex generator and turning vane (104, 106 see fig 7) may be included in the vicinity of a bumper (16 see fig 1). The invention addresses issues with prior deflectors and spoilers with respect to performance in cross-winds.</p> |
