Vector(s) containing an inducible gene encoding a CDK4/CDK6 inhibitor useful for treating neurodegenerative disorders

Described is vector or a mixture of at least two vectors comprising (a) a nucleic acid molecule encoding a protein of the INK4 family under the control of a neuron-specific promoter; and (b) a nucleic acid molecule encoding a transactivator protein that is capable of binding to and activating the neuron-specific promoter of (a) useful for treating neurodegenerative disorders. These vectors can be transferred into cells where they will exert a protective function to (i) prevent cell death or to (ii) slow down progression of cell death. These vectors can be used in therapeutic applications to prevent neurodegenerative disorders or to slow down their progression with therapeutic efficacy.
