<p>A honeycomb structure in which the inlet cells have a larger opening ratio than the outlet cells and the generation of cracks is suppressed effectively. It is a honeycomb structure 1 comprising a plurality of columnar honeycomb segments 3 in which two kinds of plural through-holes 4 (4a and 4b) and 5 (5a and 5b) different in end face area are formed side by side by being surrounded by partition walls 6, each honeycomb segment 3 having, at one end face, an inlet side of high opening ratio wherein through-holes 5b of smaller end face area are plugged and, at other end face, an outlet side of low opening ratio wherein through-holes 4b of larger end face area are plugged, the plurality of honeycomb segments 3 being bonded to each other via a bonding material 2 in the longitudinal direction of each honeycomb segment,

the Young's modulus of the bonding material 2 when sintered is smaller than the Young's modulus of each honeycomb segment 3 when sintered, and
