[Also in Group V] A mixing-device in an extrusion or injection moulding machine (e.g. for extruding large diameter tubes) comprises a casing 2 which may be heated, Fig. 1, containing two rotors 3, 4, each having grooves such as 6, 35 which intermesh with the corresponding blades such as 16, 25 on the other rotor. The blades are provided with angularly disposed, e.g. helical, grooves 44, Fig. 2, to allow the material to progress from inlet V to exit C. The clearance between the blades and the corresponding grooves decreases from inlet to outlet to cause progressive compacting of the material. Alternatively the grooves in a single rotor may be engaged by the teeth of comb-like members 45, Fig. 3. |
