<p>There is provided a process for producing an alcohol or its silyl ether represented by the formula (4):
wherein R 1 represents a hydrocarbon group, a heterocyclic group, or an alkoxycarbonyl group; R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or CO 2 R; X represents an aryl group or an alkenyl group represented by the following general formula (3):
and R 8 represents a hydrogen atom or a silyl residue, by reacting a compound represented by the formula (1):

wherein R 1 and R 2 are the same as defined above, with a silane represented by the formula (2):
