The invention generally relates to biomarkers associated with cancer and methods and compositions for the detection, diagnosis, prognosis, prediction of therapy outcome and monitoring of the progression of cancer, in particular, stomach cancer. A peptide identified in SEQ ID 1, which can be used in biomarker detection panels adapted for the diagnosis and/or prognosis of cancer is offered. According to another aspect of the invention, a set of 20 antigenic peptides comprising amino acid sequences of SEQ ID Nos. 1 to 20 can be used in biomarker detection panel adapted for the diagnosis, prognosis, and/or prediction of therapy outcome of gastric cancer. This autoantibody test is the first test that can detect early stage gastric cancer with a similar sensitivity as late stage cancer and reaches a substantially higher specificity than any other gastric cancer serum marker known to date. It can detect gastric cancer of various histological types with equal accuracy and distinguish cancer from gastric inflammatory diseases with the highest precision known to date. |
