PURPOSE: A highlight detecting method of a sports video, and a device thereof are provided to automatically detect beginning and ending frames of highlight in a sports video, and to automatically produce a highlight video or extract candidate parts of highlight scenes, thereby helping an editor with editing. CONSTITUTION: A highlight detector reads a sports video successively frame by frame. The highlight detector detects a beginning frame of a highlight video through goalpost detection and goal line detection (S20, S30). The highlight detector is inputted with following frames after the detected beginning frame (S40). The highlight detector determines a frame converted from a zoom out image to a zoom in image as an ending frame (S50).
