PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a controlling method thereof are provided to offer a user friendly unlocking method. CONSTITUTION: A memory (160) stores an unlocking pattern for a specific mode. A controller (180) displays plural figures arranged in a first configuration on a touch screen if the specific mode is in a locked state. The controller re-arranges the figures into a second configuration which is different from the first configuration if a specific input is received. The controller determines the unlocking of the specific mode based on a pattern inputted by using the plural figures arranged in the first and second configurations.
