<p>The installation relates to a method and installation for the exposure of biological samples to microwave radiation by using a waveguide. The claimed method consists in introducing a sample of biological material into a low-loss dielectric tank which is placed inside a microwave guide wherein there is transmitted energy from a microwave generator, the microwave field is propagated and passes through the dielectric tank that contains the biological material, and behind the tank there is placed an adjustable short-circuit piston which allows a maximum power transfer towards the sample, by modifying its position within the guide, using the indications of a reflectometer which allows an adaptation as correct as possible and indicates the power fraction that is reflected. The claimed installation consists of a microwave generator (1) supplied from a precise stabilized voltage source (2), a directional coupler (3) with a high division factor for measuring the power, a reflectometer carried out with two directional couplers (5, 6) and two detectors (7, 8), a measuring guide (9) wherein there is introduced a tank (10) containing a sample to be analyzed and an adjustable short-circuit piston (11), moved by a stepper motor (12). The whole installation is controlled by a microcontroller (MCMS) which also acquires the measured data.</p> |
