Disclosed herein is a method of making an aerosol of a solution comprising levofloxacin or ofloxacin and a divalent or trivalent cation (preferably selected from the group consisting of magnesium, calcium, aluminum, zinc, and iron), said method comprising: obtaining a solution comprising levofloxacin or ofloxacin and a divalent or trivalent cation; and aerosolizing said solution to achieve an aerosol comprising a mass median aerodynamic diameter less than 5 ?m, wherein said aerosol is suitable for inhalation into a lung.
