596024 Disclosed are indole derivatives of formula A that are useful for treating pain, inflammation and other conditions are described. Certain of the compounds are benzyl derivatives and others are benzoyl derivatives. The compounds are substituted at least at the 3 position of the indole. Examples of compounds of formula A are: 1-[(4-chlorophenyl)methyl]-N-(3-fluoro-4-pyridinyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-alpha-oxo-1H-Indole-3-acetamide 1-[(2,4-difluorophenyl)methyl]-N-(2-methoxy-4-pyridinyl)-2,5-dimethyl-alpha-oxo-1H-Indole-3-acetamide N-(2-chloro-4-pyridinyl)-5-methoxy-1-[(4-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-2-methyl-alpha-oxo-1H-Indole-3-acetamide N-(2-chloro-4-pyridinyl)-1-[(4-fluorophenyl)methyl]-5-methoxy-2-methyl-?-oxo-1H-Indole-3-acetamide
