PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition giving a liquid crystal display element with high reliability, enabling high-speed response, without lowering of voltage retention after irradiation of energy rays such as ultraviolet rays.SOLUTION: This liquid crystal composition is obtained by incorporating a polymerizable compound expressed by general formula (1) to a nematic liquid crystal composition whose dielectric anisotropy (&Dgr;&egr;) is negative. In formula, rings A, A, Aand Aeach independently represents a benzene ring, a cyclohexane ring or the like; Rand Reach independently represents a hydrogen atom or methyl group; L, L, Land Leach independently is a direct bond, -O-CO-, -CO-O- or the like; W, X, Y and Z each independently represents a 1-8C alkyl group or the like; R and R' each independently represents a hydrogen atom, or a 1-8C alkyl group; s and t each independently is 0 or 1; and w, x, y and z each independently is an integer of 0 to 6. |
