The device has a vehicle camera provided as an environment sensor, and an evaluation unit for determination and output of data based on lights of a vehicle to be automatically controlled. The evaluation unit considers data of another environment sensor, which partially comprises detection regions outside a detection region (1) of the vehicle camera. The detection regions consist of a vehicle lateral region (2), a dead angle region (3), and short range (4) before the vehicle. The latter environment sensor is formed as a receiving unit of a vehicle-to-vehicle communication unit. The latter environment sensor is selected from a group consisting of a radar, lidar and ultrasonic sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining and outputting data for an automatic light control system for a vehicle.
