The cooling equipment has a corrosion protection unit (18) which is provided to deliver silicon compounds present in a coolant. An ion exchanger unit (20) is provided to bind cation present in the coolant with an ion exchanger material. The aluminum ions and aluminum ion exhibiting compounds are bound to the ion exchanger material. The ion exchanger unit is arranged in a component (12) of a coolant circuit (10). The ion exchanger unit is used as filter to remove solid materials from the coolant. An independent claim is included for a method for operating the coolant circuit of the motor vehicle.
