The device has an airbag (5) i.e. passenger air bag, comprising an inlet opening (4) for expansion gas and a ventilation opening (6). The ventilation opening is closed by a closure element (7) coupled with a releasing device. The releasing device releases the closure element during activation such that the expansion gas escapes from the ventilation opening. The releasing device has a melting or heating element i.e. electrically-conducting thread (9), connected with a voltage source, where the heating element interrupts the fixing of the closure element to the airbag during activation. The heating element consists of metal or carbon coating or carbon fiber. The closure element is made from fabric, textile or film.
