According to the method for designing and generating an image-based haptic effect for providing a user-defined haptic effect using an image-based haptic primitive proposed by the present invention, for electronic devices including a user interface capable of providing a haptic effect, various haptic primitives which are components of a haptic effect design can be set, and the haptic effect corresponding to the haptic primitive selected by a user from among the set haptic primitives can be applied to a predetermined region of the user interface based on the intention of a user. Thus, the user may directly design the various haptic feedbacks implemented based on images.
