IMAGE ENCODING/DECODING METHOD AND APPARATUS USING WEIGHT PREDICTION

One embodiment of the present invention provides an image encoding apparatus and method, an image decoding apparatus for decoding the bitstream generated thereby, and a method thereof. The image encoding apparatus and method encode a current block to a bitstream by: generating a first prediction block for the current block; generating a first conversion image by converting a block set including the current block into predetermined conversion units; generating a second conversion image by converting a motion compensation prediction image formed with prediction blocks for the block set in the predetermined conversion units; calculating a weight prediction parameter on the basis of a relationship between a pixel value of the first conversion image and a pixel value of the second conversion image per the predetermined conversion unit at a same position in the first conversion image and the second conversion image; generating a weight-applied conversion image by applying the weight prediction parameter to the second conversion image in the predetermined conversion units; generating a weight-applied prediction image by inverse-converting the weight-applied conversion image; and generating a residual block by subtracting a prediction block in the weight-applied prediction image from the current block.
