Provided is a material for a gasket, characterized by the following: a chromate film or non-chromate film, a phenol resin primer layer, and a polyol-crosslinkable fluororubber layer are formed in this order on one or both surfaces of a steel plate, outward from the steel plate; the polyol-crosslinkable fluororubber layer is a rubber layer obtained by applying a fluororubber composition containing a fluororubber, a polyol crosslinking agent, an amine-based crosslinking accelerator, and silica to the phenol resin primer layer and then heating the same; and the amine-based crosslinking accelerator is a tertiary amine or a tertiary amine salt obtained through a reaction between a tertiary amine and an acid. The present invention provides a material for a gasket in which, in a use environment in which the gasket is installed in a vehicle engine, the rubber will not peel off in areas that come into contact with water or antifreeze even if the gasket is in contact with other types of metal, and abrasion and layer peeling are not likely to occur in seal sites around combustion chambers. |
