The high-pressure pump has a cylinder head (1) with a cylinder bore (2) in which a pump piston (3) is axially movably in a working space (10). An inlet valve (8) is connected with an exhaust valve (9) in the working space. The working chamber is divided into partial volumes (6a,6b) that are partially filled depending on the stroke of the pump piston. A connecting throat (7) is arranged between the partial volumes. An independent claim is included for a method for reducing cavitation effect in high pressure pump.
