The hammock has spreading rods (3) that are provided in a shoulder region, a waist region and a knee region of rectangular fabric knitted mattress (1) along left and right longitudinal edges. Several spreading and suspension ropes (2) are guided to attachment points along transverse edges of the mattress. The head and the foot ends are lowered step by step by the selection of the attachment points for the ropes along the transverse edges of the mattress.
