PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the presence/absence of a document in an electrically simplified configuration.SOLUTION: A CIS 74 is controlled to read a detection area 32c different from an ADF reading area 32b for reading a document S automatically fed by an ADF unit 61. On the basis of a detection pattern of the CIS 74 obtained by reading, it is detected whether or not the document S is set to an ADF document tray 27. Thus, without using an electronic component dedicated to document detection, the presence/absence of the document S can be detected by using the CIS 74 for reading the document S which is automatically fed. |
