PURPOSE: An optical disc device and an operation method are provided to renew a peak value of a detected optical signal while an objective lens ascends to an optical disc, and to fix a position of the objective lens when 'an optical signal of a level same as the peak value' is detected while the objective lens descends from the optical disc. CONSTITUTION: An optical disc device and an operation method comprise the following steps: a first to a third light source unit of an optical pickup unit emits respective a first wave length, a second wave length, and a third wave length; an object lens (460) of the optical pickup unit concentrates any one among lights of each wave length on an optical disc (500); an optical detector of the optical pickup unit detects an optical signal; while the objective lens ascends to the optical disc, a controller renews a peak value of the detected optical signal; and while the objective lens descends from the optical disc, when the controller detects 'an optical signal of a level same as the peak value', a position of the objective lens is fixed by a control of an actuator.
