<p>A method for optically communicating, from a user to a six dimensional (position and orientation / attitude) laser tracker, a command to control operation of the laser tracker, includes steps of providing a rule of correspondence between each of a plurality of commands and each of a plurality of patterns of poses, and selecting by the user a pattern of poses corresponding to a required command. The user moves a retroreflective target from a first pose at a first time to a second pose at a second time. A light beam is projected from the laser tracker to the retroreflector and reflected back to the tracker. The tracker determines the difference between the two poses (six dimensional positions) and, if this matches one of the stored patterns of movement, determines the corresponding command. The command is then executed. The target may also include a light source controlled by the user. The tracker may lock on to the target.</p> |
