The air supply system (1) has compressed air generation device (5) connected to line systems (3,4) to convey the air used for medical purposes and to convey lower priority air to lower priority air consumer. A monitoring and controlling device (27) senses pressure or volumetric flow rate in the first line system and restricts air flow in second line system when the pressure or the volumetric flow rate in the first line system drops below a first specific value.
