摘要 A method of diffusing a rare earth element, yttrium or scandium R' into a sintered magnet 16 which comprises a R2Fe14B phase by applying a paste having particles 11 comprising said element onto a surface 12 and consequently forming a layer of the particles 11 on the surface 12, placing the magnet 16 adjacent the layer and then heating at a temperature in the range 600-1100 0C for 0.1-100 hours to diffuse said element into the magnet 16. The magnet 16 can then be homogenized in an inert atmosphere at a temperature in the range 350-850 0C for 0.1-10 hours. The layer can be dried before the magnet 16 is placed on it, have a varying thickness and be formed either in a container or on a magnet support. The magnet 16 can either be placed in contact with or spaced from the layer. The paste can further comprise particles of oxide separation material.
