The colour change masking liquid comprises a mixture of a translucent white or clear transparent masking liquid comprising polymer dispersed or dissolved in water, a base and a pH indicator. The pH indicator is coloured when the components are mixed but becomes colourless once the masking composition has dried. The composition is used to mask the interior of a spray booth. Preferably the PH indicator is dissolved in a water miscible organic solvent, especially alcohol, ketone or ethyl acetate. The pH indicator is preferably a phthalein compound. The polymer is preferably polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), polyvinyl pyrrolidone, starch, cellulosic, gum Arabic, aligns, dextrins or acrylic.
