<p>A spectrometer, in particular a flat field spark optical emission spectrometer, comprises a toroidal mirror 4 for directing light 6 from source 2 through a single entrance slit 8. The light simultaneously illuminates two diffraction gratings 10, 12, such as holographic-made gratings, which may be mounted vertically adjacent each other. The first and second diffraction gratings 10, 12 are preferentially illuminated with light from a first region and a second region respectively of a source 2 of the light. The light is diffracted towards a single array detector 14, such as a tri-linear CCD. The gratings 10, 12 may each diffract the light onto different detection lines of pixels of the detector 14. The spectrometer may comprise one or more optical masking systems at position 20, for example beam stops, for reducing the amount of light emanating from one or more regions of the source of light 2.</p> |
