Cap remover for automatically loosening and removing the spot welding cap of the welding electrode of a spot welding gun

Device for automatically detaching and removing welding cap (5) from a welding electrode (4) of a welding tong or welding device is claimed. A welding electrode with mounted welding cap is introduced into a holder (6), where a gap between the cap and the electrode (8) acts as a receiver. An opposing actuator pair is generated by suitable profiling of a clamping of the cap. A tensile force is generated in the axial direction of the electrode by the rotation of the actuator, such that the cap is detached from the electrode and is removed.
