A machine for cutting-off lengths of tube or other long bodies comprises an annular tool having a number of cutters 9 and rotated eccentrically of the tube to be cut, the axis of the tool being given a feed movement round the tube during cutting by a pair of eccentrics 25, 26 controlling the movement of a carrier 8 on which the tool is mounted. Initially, the tube is clamped between jaws and a motor 1 is started to rotate the tool. A motor 11 is then started to rotate the eccentrics 25, 26 causing a swinging movement of the tool-carrier 8. When the cutters have penetrated the tube to a sufficient depth, a gear 13 is moved by a hand-lever to engage a gear-train to rotate the eccentric bushes 34, 35 on which the eccentrics 25, 26 are mounted. The eccentrics and bushes then rotate together, causing the cutters to move round the tube, cutting to a constant depth. |
