PURPOSE: An organic electroluminescent display (OELD) device and a method of driving the same are provided to reduce image distortion due to peak current by controlling luminance of an output image though an LED module. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel (2) is sectioned by a block that includes a plurality of unit pixels consisting of four sub pixels, and a unit pixel in accordance with a power supply. A data conversion unit (10) generates a histogram using grayscale differences among inputted source data of three colors, and adjusts luminance of an image displayed in the liquid crystal panel according to a gain value extracted from the histogram. A timing controller (8) controls a data driver driven by a luminance adjusting signal outputted from the data conversion unit.
