PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus, a photographing apparatus, a control method, and a recording medium are provided to trace an arbitrary subject from an original image data after photographing and generate a focused image. CONSTITUTION: A control unit generates a set image from an image processing unit (S1001). If a subject is selected, the control unit determines whether a target frame is a lead frame (S1003,S1004). The control unit generates images for the calculation of de-focusing quantity from the image processing unit (S1005). The control unit obtains the deviation quantity of the selected subject between images for the calculation of de-focusing quantity in a refocused surface detection area (S1006). The control unit determines a focal distance which focuses the subject in the refocused surface detection area (S1007).
