PURPOSE: A stereo matching method of an image and a device are provided to use a hierarchical structure based on reliability, thereby reducing complexity of a matching cost integration process. CONSTITUTION: A hierarchical structure setting unit(20) hierarchically sets a size and the number of levels of a support window for a matching object image. A reliability based cost account unit(30) calculates reliability for a pixel included in the support window and accounts matching costs for hierarchical support windows. A displacement output unit(40) calculates and outputs a stereo matching result corresponding to the matching costs.
