PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of increasing cleaning capability by promptly correcting deformation with a reverse operation of a cleaning roller when a cleaning member of the cleaning roller can be deformed in such a case where an error is generated at a timing of the cleaning member of the cleaning roller contacting with a document reading glass.SOLUTION: An image reader comprises: a cleaning roller 410 which includes an elastically deformable cleaning member 412 slidingly contacting with a surface of a document reading glass 510, and which can be rotationally driven forward and backward by driving means 7; and control means 1 which stops the rotation of the cleaning roller 410 when an error is generated, and executes a home position operation to return the cleaning roller 410 to a reference position when the error is released. The control means 1 executes a reverse operation for rotating the cleaning roller 410 in the reverse direction to the rotation direction at a normal operation when the home position operation for the cleaning roller 410 is executed along with the release of the error. |
