PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Stirling engine capable of preventing starting under such a condition that a piston and a mating cylinder are in contact with each other, when the engine includes a self-support type gas lubrication piston as the piston.SOLUTION: A Stirling engine 10B includes: a first communication part 62a communicating a buffer space B with a static pressure chamber R; a communication control valve 80 controlling the communication in the first communication part 62a; inlets 21a, 31a communicating the inside of the pistons 21, 31 with the static pressure chamber R; a first pressurizing pump 65 pressurizing a buffer space B1; and a second pressure pump 75 pressurizing the static pressure chamber R. Before starting, if leakage of a working fluid during the engine is stopped is smaller than a prescribed value &bgr;, the static pressure chamber R is pressurized; and if the leakage of the working fluid during the engine is stopped is larger than the prescribed value &bgr;, the buffer space B1 and the static pressure chamber R are pressurized. |
