PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edgelight system backlight restraining hot spots in the vicinity of light sources while enhancing luminance of a light guide plate, and at the same time, restraining luminance variation in a direction orthogonal to a light-incident face of the light guide plate, as well as a liquid crystal display equipped with the backlight.SOLUTION: A backlight, of an edgelight system, is provided with a plurality of light sources 1 and a light guide plate 2 emitting incident light from the light sources 1 as planar light. The light guide plate 2 is provided with an incident face 21 opposed to the light source 1 for illumination light to be incident into, and an emission face vertical to the incident face 21 for emitting illumination light incident into the incident face. On the emission face 22, a plurality of streaky protrusions 22a are repeatedly formed in extension in a direction vertical to the incident face 21 with a cross section parallel to the incident face taking on nearly a triangular shape, a width of which 22a gets continuously larger as it is away from the incident face 21, at least at positions corresponding to the light sources 1. |
